cannot enable internet connection sharing

Could someone please tell me what I am missing here?
I have a home network of Windows 2000 and XP boxes set up and I am trying to enable ICS on a dial-up connection through my Vista box.
When I view "properties" for my dial-up connection, there is no "sharing" tab, as described in the help file, and other boxes on the network cannot connect to the internet through my connection.
The network is otherwise functioning properly with all boxes able to see all others, and the dial-up connection works fine on the Vista box -- I just cannot figure out how to share it.
All connections on the network are set to "obtain IP address automatically", and to "obtain DNS server automatically"
"Discovery and sharing" is set to "allow"
Anyone have any suggestions to fix this?

1) Get a high speed broadband Internet connection either through you Cable TV provider or from a DSL provider.
2) Get a router to share your Internet connection.
Dial-up is just not practical in these days when broadband is just about everywhere.

That's a very intelligent reply, William.
I wonder why I wasn't smart enough to think of that on my own before posting. It's a really good thing that there are so many helpful people here like you who will take the time to help someone solve a problem.
I don't really recall a request for advice concerning the practicality of dial-up vs. broadband being part of my post. There seems to be a lot of anger in this NG directed toward newbies and people that ask basic questions, but it seems to me there is a much bigger problem here with people like yourself who want to be superior to others with less technical knowledge and experience.
Other than the fact that using dial-up is impractical for William (even though it is more than adequate for my needs), is there maybe someone else here who can answer my question?

If I am understanding your reply, the whole key here is "run as administrator". The user profile I am using to do this is *an* administrator, but not the *ADMINISTRATOR* account.
Is that the reason why I am not seeing an option to enable ICS?

This is due to a bug.
Workaround:
- Click Start - Type: Windows Explorer - Right-click windows explorer when it appears in the start menu list - click run as administrator - click Continue - Click the Expand up arrow next to "Folders" in the left pane - Select Control Panel - Click Network And Internet - Click Network Center - Click Manage Network Connections in the left pane - Right-Click the dial-up connection you wish to enable ICS for - Click properties - Click the Advanced tab - Check the box "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet Connection" - Click OK

By default in Windows Vista, administrators no longer operate at full "administrator" level. Instead, you are basically running as a normal user, even tho you are technically an administrator.
When you need to access a program that does administrator-type stuff, the system brings up that annoying security dialog that blacks out the screen ... this is to make sure that YOU are the one trying to perform the operation, not some malware in the background.
The problem in this case is that accessing the properties of your dialup connection needs the administrator privledges, but for some reason the system does not initiate this security process... so it won't let you do admin stuff like install network protocols ... or internet connection sharing ;)
